Who we want… (Requirements)

Minimum of an Associate’s degree in architecture, construction or engineering related field.  Total construction related work experience of five years with two years specific to estimating.

 

Must possess basic computer skills including the ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail applications.  May also require working knowledge of scheduling and/or estimating applications.

Qualifications

What we expect… (Essential Functions)

  • Provide market research, project lead evaluations, risk analysis and participate with strategic sales and department planning.
  • Management of bid solicitation software.
  • Review RFP’s and participates in formulating a strategy to win projects.
  • Solicit interest and proposals from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Develop cost estimates for self-perform tasks as part of the overall project proposal strategy.
  • Prepare scopes of work and competitively priced proposals, in a high-quality format that addresses the critical needs of the customer.
  • Seeks new customers and manage existing customers, in conjunction with the company’s overall business development strategies.
  • Prepare conceptual budgets for customers, quickly and accurately with limited information, in a manner to help position our chances for securing the project.
  • Trades work to vendors/subcontractors and prepares the initial cost budget on select projects.
  • Precisely communicate to others Gray’s culture, competencies, and specific value-added programs such as safety, quality, preconstruction, design/build services, market strengths, etc.
  • Cultivates relationships with existing and new subcontractors.
  • Reviews estimates of other estimators in the preconstruction team.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

While performing the duties of this position, the team member is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms, reach, and talk or hear.  They may occasionally be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities include accurate near and distant vision.

 

Frequently in a normal office environment where noise level is moderate and temperature/humidity is controlled.  Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions.  May be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and/or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives and vibrations.  Noise level on the job site is normally moderate to loud.   Overtime will be required.  Moderate travel will be required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise project support teams, Assistant Estimator, team members on estimating activities such as quantity take offs, preparing bid lists and preparing proposals.
